they also don't want a bunch of backpackers with little or no income not spending money and possibly getting stuck with no money.

They are going to clamp down on the requirements soon based on the number of people posting and trying to manipulate the requirements. There will be any rejections in the future is my prediction.

a big part of why they will steer you towards an education visa is it is the correct one. A DTV, meanwhile, is designed for remote work. If you are doing remote work for your job every other month, that could work.

Save up. Without a decent savings you shouldn't be planning on spending a long time overseas anyhow.

could be, but double check. I believe it is the country you hold a passport in.

no, you can extend once only in 5 years. You'll have to bounce every 180 days after that, and I'm sure there is a 90 day reporting requirement just like every other visa.

Anyone who says they know actually doesn't. Even Embassy officials are unsure of how to manage it. It's a wait and see kind of situation. Is it 180 days total with the option of a 180 day extension over 5 years? Do you get 180 days every time you come in? Does it tick off days? There is so much gray right now I think people should let others be guinea pigs for a while and see what happens.
