TLDR : Answer Summary
This thread discusses the financial requirements for obtaining a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, particularly whether the 500,000 THB requirement must come from savings or can include proof of income. Participants share insights on acceptable proof of financial stability, indicating that the amount can be shown in a bank statement or potentially through life insurance. There are discussions on whether borrowing funds temporarily to show sufficient bank balance is permissible, along with references to requirements from specific embassies, such as the Hong Kong embassy. Furthermore, the conversation touches upon the importance of showing financial evidence to avoid being viewed as a financial burden on the country.
It's about proof that you can support yourself. Showing current income is no proof you can support yourself next week. It's the same principle as for short term visitors who might be asked for proof of funds.
Let me rephrase the question...if I have the amount in the checking account will that be okay? Instead of savings?still shows have the funds

"Checking Account" is a Yankee version of a Current Account. Thailand only cares what money you have to hand, not where that money sits. Your original posting implied you have no financial assets to hand, and were trying to get into Thailand based on a future expectation of earnings. Again, the Thai government really want to know that there is no chance of you becoming of becoming destitute when living in their country. They don't want foreign beggers. You want to come to Thailand on the basis you earnt a million quid/whatever, but spaffed it up against a proverbial wall, and have no financial assets to speak of. What will you do in Thailand when you are sacked from your job/business collapses, and you have no reserve to live on? YOu have your knickers in a twist, when you haven't even read what the Thai government says, which is pretty clear:
*****************************************
"Financial evidence: amount of no less than 500,000 THB, e.g. bank statements, sponsorship letter", Do you have 500,000 BHT? If you don't, forget DTV. Start saving money.
and as you have gone off topic...are you implying that if a person doesn't have 500,000 tbh in savings then the person is poor and is a beggars? People do have other investments as well and assets. But good to know the tunnel vision 😆
No. The Thais, like most other countries, require financial surity, so that foreigners aren't a financial burden. Shares and property are worth zero until you sell. You can call it tunnel vision but your question was answered if you just bothered to research the Thai government announcements, instead of trying to game a system by being obtuse.
like said...it says bank statements...it can mean few things. It was a simple question but the level of frustration seems to be high. Also, you didn't need to answer or simple "no just savings" would have been sufficient. Did the research and did find the requirements and wanted clarity....feel like I have asked something that is unspeakable of...Lol "game a system by being obtuse" dang...you crack up. 🤣 nearly pee-ed myself laughing. Thanks needed that on a gloomy day like today.
haha. Other countries use that term as well if you are unfamiliar. Also, said short on savings, didn't say don't have any assets or money. I really don't know where you getting all this extra information from.
Yes, I have read it...it says BANK STATEMENTS...with a checking account you can get bank statements as well.
the purpose behind this new visa regulation was to promote investment and for people to bring in their money, resulting in increased expenditure within Thailand. The economy has not been doing well in the past year, and it needed a boost. This was one way to make foreigners bring in their money and spend it in Thailand. The more the merrier..!!
There appears to be no requirement to show a balance in a Thai bank account. It's a hope and a prayer that so called digital nomads don't do all their online shopping outside of Thailand. It's going to fail due to bureaucracy, with all these applications citing obscure financial instruments and downright counterfeit financial certification. And that's before the Thai tax authorities want a take, and you get bogged down in taxation treaties, and whether the digital nomad has done business with a Thai entity.

Does anyone have an idea till when the 60 days free tourist visa will be available..??
i know it started a week ago....ie from 15th July, but my question is, till when will this 60 days visa be available. Is this going to he an ongoing visa scheme, or will then stop issuing this free 60 days visa on arrival after few months..?
It's not a VOA, but Visa exempt. Your airline might, or might not, require you to have proof of your leaving Thailand within the 60 days as I've heard. I've personally never been asked for that proof but haven't tried to enter Thailand for almost 2 years, and they may be a bit more strict about it now.
the airline doesnt require it. The return flight ticket is asked by the thai immigration when you are entering. I have been in and out almost 4-5 times last year, and each time they asked for it at Bangkok airport immigrations. Then it was 15 days visa on arrival..

I was asked the following by the Hong Kong embassy: "Full bank statement(s) with applicant’s name showing secure/stable liquid financial asset with ‘latest 6-month’ account activity details, in English or with certified English translation:
Each month with amount of no less than 500,000 THB or equivalent."
I don't know if the 6 months request is a standard procedure or just because the bank statement I submitted was just above the 500k THB, which I kinda did on purpose, for this second round I'll submit a considerable higher value/statement
they just asked for the proof of current location (HK landing slip) and the financials. Yes, I applied as digital nomad, I asked my company to write me a document (employment certificate) stating all our contractual agreements and that I'm in fact hired in a remote position.
you traveled into Hong Kong to do the e visa for the DTV? If so how long did it take

My interpretation is you have to show the equivalent of 550k baht in your own country bank account at time of application. So potentially you could borrow it for a day, print off a bank statement showing it then pay it back
what about 401k money assuming I don’t work for the company Any more. So technically it’s something no have access too, despite the penalty for early withdraw.
if you get in a bad accident whilst in Thailand, you probably won't be able to work, right? So they need for you to be able to pay your hospital bills before you leave the hospital. Need proof of being able to care for yourself.
lol husband can work if I can't hahaha 😆 but wasn't asking WHY they want it.
Just wanted to know if just yearly income is enough or not. Maybe has in checking but not 6 months in savings...then does it mean I don't have the proof of not being able to care for myself? 🤔
