Visa exempt, VOA and Tourist Visas need onward/return travel. Non Immigrant visas Do not, unless specified by the Thai Embassy you're applying at.

Get your visa in the Uk, only takes 2-3 days. So much easier than getting it in Thailand

 Absolute bullsh*t! Fly from where? You've been refused entry. You cant check in to fly anywhere. You'll be sent back on the airline you arrived with.

 If he's refused entry he'll be sent back to where he came from, which looks like the UK. You don't get a choice were to go.
