Apply for your Non-O visa in your home country first. It is easy. All online. Just check with your airline if you need a return ticket, visa does not require it.

I don't have trouble getting money sent there but was told by L.A. Consul the US Embassy won't issue the proof of Pension letter for monthly SS income like other nations so I have to have the 800,000 Baht for my Non-0. It drops down to 400,000 later due to my having a Thai wife. I wire money from my US bank direct to my Thai bank account.in dollars. It works great 👍

You can't use SS as a pension because the US Embassy will not certify it as steady income. I guess they don't consider it reliable 🤔

Jan Kenneth Neslandwhen I got my Non-O from Los Angeles Consul for my February visit we researched the extension requirements & I was told paperwork from Social Security is not considered proof of steady income. I had it, but was told US Embassy in Thailand would not issue the proof of income letter. Rules may have changed.

The US Embassy will not issue you the pension income letter required to use only pension as financial responsibility. You need to have the money in the bank.

when get to Thailand make sure the Immigration Officer stamps you in correctly. Mine did not & I had to get my stamp changed at the Immigration Office when I tried to open my bank account. Lots of changes going on now, but just keep smiling & things keep moving along...

This past February I got my Non-0 in exactly 2 weeks from the Los Angeles consulate. It was good for 90 days from the date of issue. You can apply for an extension when you get to Thailand. I didn't need to apply but did get my bank account setup for next time. It was a simple process. I suggest not applying too early.

I got one in February this year from Los Angeles online in exactly 2 weeks. Make sure the Immigration Officer stamps you in correctly, they stamped me in as a 60 day exempt while holding a copy of my Evisa The Immigration Office in Hua Hin had to change it for me so I could get a bank account.
