In Chiang Mai, you can go 45 days prior. You will get 12 months from the original date, provided that your passport is valid for that long. And you will need to meet the income/banking requirements on the day that you go (3 months for the bank funds).

Reporting you address to Immigration does not trigger a new 90 days. The date of the original 90 day report remain valid.

I believe that the Thai Immigration would classify your visit as working and that you will therefore need a work permit which you should request the organizers of the music competition to organize for you.

No visa needed for your short stays in Thailand as you will receive a 30 day exemption on arrival at the airport. For Vietnam you should apply earlier for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) which you can get online from any tour operator in Vietnam.

Yes. I get a retirement rather than a marriage because it is simpler. It was the same when I applied for a house book. I had to get papers signed by the village head man and 2 others from the village who needed to swear on paper that I was "a good man". I laughed for about a week but I did buy my villager friends a beer or two as thanks, afterwards.
