What documents do I need from the bank to transition my visa from retirement to marriage in Thailand?

I am on an extension of stay based on retirement which expires on 17 Jan 2022.

When I renew I wish to change my reason to being married to a Thai lady. I meet the financial requirements of my existing extension for the passed 12months and therefore my bank balance will meet the 400,000 thb requirement. I have been to Immigration and obtained their list of requirements for the extension based on marriage. I will have photocopy of my bank book showing my (very few) transactions over the past 12 months and I will update the bank book on the day that I go to Immigration. I know that I need to get proof of my funds from my bank. My question is: What exactly am I asking for from the bank and can I get this, say, a week before I go to Immigration? Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking to switch their visa type from a retirement extension to a marriage-based extension in Thailand, with specific questions about what financial documents are required from their bank. Key community responses suggest obtaining two bank letters (one confirming account ownership and another with recent balance), as well as ensuring some transactions show current funds on the day of the immigration appointment. There are also varied insights on banking practices depending on location and immigration office requirements.

Okay, most answering don't have the type O extension based on marriage, called "Thai wife". I have been doing this for the last five years.

From your bank you need two different letters on bank letterhead. These can be gotten a week before if you want. One states that the account is yours only with their bank, and the other is your bank statement, showing your balance for at least the last two months. You also need copies of your bank book, and your bank book. On the day you go to apply, you make a small deposit, or withdrawal, and update your bank book, and get another copy. I just do a bt100 transfer from my other bank, but whatever transaction you make, it shows your current, that day's, balance when you update your bank book in the machine next to the ATM machine. As long as you don't have the exact bt400,000 in the account, and have over that amount, lots just withdraw bt100 from the ATM, then move to the machine beside it, and update the bank book, then go get a copy made. This is to show that the money is actually there on the day you apply.

On another note did you take your wife with you when you got the list of required documents from immigration, because not everything is on the list, and if you don't speak and understand Thai, they tell her in detail. I hope she was with you.

Thank you. Your answer relieves my mind. For some reason, I understood that the bank neededto give me a statement covering my transactions for the past 12 months.

if you had a retirement extension for the last year, you will need the statement to show the last 12 months, as that is needed to make sure your retirement extension was legal financially for the whole year, so yes, it would be prudent for the statement to show the full last 12 months, to show the bt400,000 was always there. It shouldn't be a problem, but with immigration you never want to try and second guess them. For the marriage extension it is just two months, and usually the extra 30 days under consideration you get if everything is correct when you apply. You don't get the marriage extension on the same day. There is a 30 day under consideration, then you go back to get the extension. They have asked for my bank book update at that 30 days also. During that 30 days they might come and visit, to make sure your wife actually lives with you. They don't always do this, but they can, and do with some applications. That is why they want the map of where you live and how to get there from the closest main road.

I usually get the letter and do the bank book the day before and not had a problem so far at Chiang Mai office. Of course, that can always change with a new head of immigration

Ot. I'm on tourist Visa...need to take 30 day extension in Feb. Can I get more time because covid reason?
Stuart *********
@Jukka ********
currently the last day to apply for a Covid extension is January 25th. This date may change. Many immigration offices will require you to get the “regular” 30 day extension before applying for a Covid extension.

@Stuart ********
Thank you for info, I was thinking the same.

Did immigration assure you could change an extension based on retirement to an extension based on marriage?
Stuart *********
It depends on the office you use. The bank will know the letter you need from them, but some offices will allow it dated 7 or less days prior others will want it 3 or perhaps even the same day you apply.

I needed to get letter from bank on the same day at sisaket office

Who btw are very helpful

Do a transaction can be very minimal on day you apply and then copy your bank book. They usually want to see a trsnsaction on that day.

The immigration may also ask you to see original bank book to see that there is no change...

@Jonas ************
They will definitely require to see the original bank book and a copy

Thank you. I will follow your advice. But my question remains unanswered.

@Paul ******
oh and you have to pay bank 200 baht i think for the paperwork, all rather pointless with a bank book but TIT

As andrew said there are two documents bank gives you, both statements of sorts. Tell the bank you are going for visa and they know what it is, thats all i have ever done. I have always done day before, just photocopy of bank book on the day
Andrew *******
Technically it needs to be done on the day. The bank has a standard letter and statements that it will produce at your request. Depending on the visa office, some banks have branches at the office and open early to accommodate this requirement

@Andrew ******
The letter can be up to 7 days beforehand with the bank book updated the same day as the extension (although I've had the day before accepted before)
Mark ********
Check the current requirements haven't changed. This is from last year
