Waiting for my Non-O visa and want to get a license for a motorcycle in the meantime. What would be the best way to get a license, I've heard it's a 50,000 baht find for driving without a proper license, so I want to do things the right way.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the appropriate steps to acquire a motorcycle license in Thailand while awaiting their Non-O visa. Comments reveal that it is possible to obtain a license even on a visa-exempt entry with the right documentation, including proof of residence and a valid driving record from one's home country. Some users mention variations in license requirements based on location, while others provide insights about the process, potential fines for driving without a proper license, and personal experiences with obtaining their licenses.

unfortunately this isn't thai visa related enough. Post in a f/b group geared toward the city you live in here. Sorry

Guess that depends on where exactly you apply.. In Buengkan they require non-o or extension from one to make a license. They refuse to make one if you are on turist or exempt.

Well.. they are strick with the paperwork.. They did not even care about my yellow book, still had to get the letter of residence from immigration. On the plus side depending how you look at it, they a very slack about the practical things. Once I had the required papers (already on extension based on marriage before that) and handed them over with my passport, my DK license and IDP, I was told that I did not even have to do the colour or brake test because I had the IDP (or maybe its because of my relative young age idk to be honest). I watched some video, but only because it became lunch time for the office workers. They came in and stopped it halfway because they needed the room for something else.

That sucks.

I've done both mine on a TR 60 days and a letter from the local police station, plus the medical.

And obviously rocking up at DLT and doing the practical stuff.

Like colour blind, reaction test, and alignment of the two pegs on a bit of string.

Didn't have to sit through the two hours of video.. It's in Thai anyway.

I dont know what you mean by "waiting for your non imm O visa". You can get a license in Thailand with proof of residence and proof from your country of anything you're entitled to drive there,

You can get a licence on a simple visa exempt entry. The fine isn't 50,000 baht yet. It's a proposal for a law change and will take at least a year to become law.
