I think you are looking for a rational answer to an irrational request when I opened my Bangkok bank account in August I paid ฿6000 for an insurance policy. When I asked if I could open the account without the insurance policy, there was no response except for a steady stare. My thought would be that you need to have someone greasing the wheels. I've been to Vietnam Loas and Thailand in the last 4 months. Vietnam you go to the government website and whatever number of days they tell you it takes to process your Visa is what it takes to the minute almost. loas I just showed up in the airport and paid the Visa on demand fee Emma's allowed to enter the country. Thailand is the easiest: show up at the airport and got my 60 day Visa free stamp for no charge and no previous form filling. enjoy!

I ended up hiring an agent It cost $10,000 baht and everything was done within 30 minutes. applying from inside the country of Thailand worked better for me, I did not check Malaysia. Good luck!

Yes when you're out of the country a whole different set of rules apply that are implemented through the Thai consulate of that country. also you have the additional requirement of health insurance when you apply from out of the country. now if Malaysia is not your home country how you verify funds in banks that are not thai, I am not quite sure.

I am in the last step in the process for my retirement visa. I submitted and had accepted a six month agreement for my hotel room. The landlord has to be cooperative as they require landlord's id, etc. Each immigration office can set their own rules, so go to the office and get the list of requirements.
