Hi everyone, I just realized I made a HUGE mistake and hope someone has some advice for me. I am a US citizen. I just spent 30 days in Indonesia and 28 days in Malaysia. I leave Malaysia in 2 days heading to Singapore for 3 days. My plan was to spend 60 days in Thailand on a tourist visa and 2-3 weeks in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. It just occurred to me I forgot to apply for the Thai Visa and I won’t be in Malaysia or Singapore long enough to get it. I haven’t checked yet, but does anyone know if it’s easier to get a tourist visa in Vietnam, Laos, or Cambodia and apply for the Thai visa there? Another option is to stay longer in Singapore until I get it, but hotels are very expensive there and I don’t know how difficult their Thai visa process is. I can’t believe I did this! I appreciate your thoughts.
UPDATE: I have what I need so I’m turning off comments. Thanks again for being so kind and gracious with your advice, even though I made a silly mistake in misinterpreting the Thai Visa information. I also appreciate those of you who went beyond and reminded me of the other country requirements I will be visiting too. You guys are a real treasure. Best to you all.
TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen traveling to Thailand does not need to apply for a tourist visa in advance. They are eligible for a 60-day visa exemption on arrival, which can be extended for an additional 30 days if needed. This applies regardless of their travel history in the region, as long as they enter Thailand with a valid US passport.
