TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirements for obtaining a retirement visa in Thailand can vary by immigration office. While some sources, like Siam Legal, suggest that a long-term lease of 6 months to a year is necessary, other users indicate that shorter rental agreements or long-term hotel stays may suffice. It's important to note that each immigration office may have different rules, and some expats have successfully used 3-month leases or hotel agreements. To get the most accurate information, it's advisable to consult directly with the local immigration office or seek firsthand experiences from others who have recently navigated the process.

I'm sure they're cheaper but no deposit, no contract required for hotels (No concern about deposit NOT being returned which is a huge problem here). Some like the feel of hotels. Definitely a viable option.

hotels will put a certain amount on hold on your credit card

I am in the last step in the process for my retirement visa. I submitted and had accepted a six month agreement for my hotel room. The landlord has to be cooperative as they require landlord's id, etc. Each immigration office can set their own rules, so go to the office and get the list of requirements.

keep asking and you will receive more advice...... you might consider instructions from an immigration office...

Perhaps if you say which immigration office you will be using, hopefully people with past experience at that office will comment, if the office you intend on using is not far away, just go and ask them, what they will and won't accept.

Depends on what immigration office you're using. Some might require a long term lease while others won't.

I don't know because I'm still a while away from retirement visa. I just know that retirements vary by province. But you also can't shop around where you'll apply.
