Great to hear. So it seems the activation process is different between the internet providers. I have been with dtac on 1 year prepaid plans and they require to go to their shop with passport and simcard to activate. Takes a couple minutes.
It's the easiest and friendliest consulate to apply through according to people's experiences... Moreover, almost all Thai Visa agents go through Vientiane to help you get this Visa in case you don't meet the requirements... (Personally I love Laos, it feels like Thailand twenty years ago...)
I am following the comments in this group for a while as I will also apply for DTV next year... and KL is reported to be the most difficult to apply from while Vientiane has been the easiest...
I would like to add to applying in China: there is Chinese people posting on Chinese social media that the Thai embassy (can't particularly say which ones, but certainly the one in Beijing) makes it really hard for them to get this Visa. I mean really hard, because the government there doesn't want anyone to get this Visa. Not sure how they treat foreigners there applying for it.
Why would anyone marry a Thai person who is non-Thai? Thailand has the highest cheating culture in the world... their culture is a facade of nice people... when you get close to them you realize they really don't care... we know that as farangs don't we?
When you are thinking about SE Asia, you need to understand that it's 180 degrees opposite the West, particularly a country like Germany that's hyper regulated. As long as you have money in SE Asia, you typically get what you want. There are already plenty of visa agents who can provide the paperwork and everything else you need. However, as much as I have seen most of them go through Vientiane Thai Embassy. So maybe, it's best to come to Thailand first for 2 - 3 months, and find an agent who can organize the DTV in Vientiane for you and your wife.
Good luck complying with the whims of regular immigration officers. I can never understand why for little money people choose not to avoid them and rather put up with their BS...😅
