We are married. For a retirement visa, do we both need to have 800k in a Thai bank (1600 total) or will 800k be sufficient for both of us. What are options if we don’t have the 1600k but want to stay for a year? TIA.

Hello,

With a Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa, and no incomes in Thailand, do I need to get a Tax Identification Number (TIN) and fill a tax return?

Thanks

Currently on a LTR WP 10yr Visa from the BOI scheme at Chamchuri Square.

Got a new passport yesterday from my USA embassy (24 days total process time) and now need to get old LTR Visa stamp transferred into new Passport.

Are the requirements for this the same as other Visa stamps? Anyone got a list of the requirements for Chamchuri Square/BOI for a LTR Visa stamp transfer? Thanks

My husband and I are planning on moving to Thailand for retirement. Should we get visas before we come? Or should we wait until we get there?

Hello everyone.

Today I got my LTR-R visa stamped🥂🍾 🎉

I just read the Nick M. complex experience…

My experience:

Compared with the “regular” 1 year retirement extension, it was a rather easy process.

I initially applied with a combination of pension income + property investments in Thailand.

Using Thai property as proof of income is quite cumbersome and for several reasons my initial request was rejected.

Switched to pension + US dividend income and the process was much easier and faster and I got my visa approved in less than 3 weeks.

The BOI LTR office is truly helpful and very responsive. For every question I posed, the reply was always within the next day!

The main benefits of the LTR visa are:

- 10 years visa (5+5) rather than 1 year.

- the 12 months police report rather than 90 days which means, practically no more reporting.

- no need of any bank deposit (800k)

- LTR is a multi entry visa by default

- it costs only 5k/year thus 50k for the 10 years

- the application process is fully online (with some software hiccups though…)

- it can be definitely a do-it-by-yourself process, no need of agents at all.

On the other hand you pay 50k upfront for a 10 year visa but it is in reality a 5+5 years. At 5 years they will check if you still meet the LTR-R requirements, so there is a little risk there.

If anyone is going through the process and have any question, please feel free to ask.

Cheers.

Hello All.

I came to Thailand in July, stayed 2 months. I’m currently in Cambodia. I want to return to Thailand in October, but I want to stay as long as possible. I am retired. I do receive a nice pension from the US. What is the easiest way (least amount of paperwork, most cost effective ) to stay in Thailand for at least 3-6 months? Which visa? Is VOA w/ extension the only option?

I’m headed back to Thailand in early October.

Need some advice regarding dependents on LTR visa. Would my parents (over 50) be eligible or only spouse and childrens? If they are not eligible, what would be the best visa to get for them once I receive my LTR visa? I qualify under the category of working-from-thailand professionals. Wondering what Brandon Thurkettle would advise.
