Danny Janssens No, not on overstay as not in country, just planning ahead. I could get a DTV, or simply go on visa exempt 60 day entries, or get a non immigrant due to a child or for impending retirement or a multiple tourist visa etc.

I think the safe thing is just to park Bt800k and do the Bt65k a month thing so all bases are covered.

David Welford I think if you set it up to transfer at the end of the month then you could have a situation where a delay means a calendar month with no deposit and two deposits the next month. However, sending it mid month gets around that and the "no banking because of Songkran" nonsense.

Alireza Dorratoltaj No it isn't because it isn't wise to get an agent to do anything underhand.

Why do so many people need an agent ?

I know the illegal fudge for the Bt800k but if you do things legally, there is no need for an agent.

Rok Ziherl But they are not Thai living in a hut on family land eating rice every meal. I agree that Bt92k is reasonable but it is not luxurious and not everyone lives in a condo or wants a scooter when it is normal in the west and Thailand to have a house and a car or two.

It is really only the people who are poor who only have a scooter.

Mary Gerber The long term writing is on the wall anyway as the demographic changes.

The poor pensioners now can basically eke out a life skirting the rules but relying heavily on the old fashioned (and now defunct) final salary pension schemes and the sale of the family home.

The younger ones, the wannabee influencers etc., have no assets, no pension, no job and flit around on the back of family allowances and some temporary youtube video income.

When they get older, there is no final salary or money purchase pension scheme and no house to sell, only debt.

As in the west, the next generation are going to be worse off and without an inheritance, their time in Thailand will be curtailed long before they get old.

My guess is the Bt800k will move, as it was once Bt400k, before than Bt200k and I have even heard talk of a once annual Bt100k way back before my time but as you say, money talks in Thailand and Bt1900 doesn't leave as much to kick upstairs as Bt

Mary Gerber The naysayers and fraudsters say their version is ok but it is only ok until someone pulls the plug, like they did on back to back border bounces and their lives go to shit in an instant as they have nowhere to go back to, no property back home and now they cannot pass Thai immigration rules.

On the day that happens, don't go outside near any tall buildings.

James Mitchell It has been like this since forever. You do realise that most of these people don't actually have any investments or savings and they exist solely on the back of whatever cash they got from selling their family home, thus depriving their kids of any inheritance plus any old final salary and government pensions they receive.

Before the house sale windfall, they would never have seen £5k and many would never have seen £2k before.

Ken Hutchinson So you're one of the people who should not be overseas as you cannot comply legally with a simple income or savings requirement ?

That is the actual and very real position. You are breaking the law.

James Mitchell The rules and law say it can be extended.

Here is an official Thai government employee explaining it, including the extension.
