Serious yet simple question to all you men living in Thailand
When was the last time you wore a tie whilst in Thailand?
I have 30+ ties, my wife says Iβll never wear them once we are in Thailand so might as well give them to charity here in the UK hence asking if you ever attend a more formal establishment where a nice shirt and tie is perhaps expected or at least appreciated
Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question revolves around the frequency of wearing ties for men living in Thailand. Most comments indicate that ties are rarely worn, with many expats stating they haven't worn one since moving. Formal occasions or governmental meetings don't typically enforce a tie requirement, and many suggest that casual attire like shorts and t-shirts is more prevalent. Some participants mention wearing ties for specific events such as weddings or funerals but agree that it's generally unnecessary in everyday life. The consensus leans towards keeping a couple of ties as a backup for rare formal occasions.
Bring your two favorites, or that go with anything. I brought a suit, a white dress shirt, and a tie, "just in case". You can get all here though. Not worn in 5 years.
Depends on your adjustment to the climate. Most newbies canβt even fathom long trousers (though theyβre great for mosquitoes and Thais seem comfortable in them).
My one school where I use to work, ties were a requirement. I haven't used in 2 years but never know what my next school will require.... so keep them for incase..π
They sell ties by the dozen in Thailand. If you really need one you can get one so easy . There's a suit shop on every street ...... Bring as little of your old life as possible. Leave your baggage behind and begin again
