Will my old Kasikorn savings accounts still be valid for a Non O Visa deposit after 9 years of inactivity?

Nearly 10 years ago i opened 2 Savings accounts with Kasikorn . One in Pattaya and another in Patong . I made some transactions in those early days but nothing in the last 9 years . I still have both the Passbooks and i wondered if they would still be valid to use to deposit the required funds for Non O Visa. One passbook is showing 30,000 baht balance but i think that money is probably gone as i would have used the card for withdrawal and not gone in to update the passbook. So i have no real way of knowing the balance .

However when i tried to log into my old account i tried to use the " Forgot Password " but it keeps asking for " Merchant ID " and i have no idea what that refers to. So i cant access my account or even know if it is still active. I am not in Thailand currently . Anyone know what Merchant ID is ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the status of two Kasikorn Bank savings accounts that have been inactive for nearly a decade and whether they can still be used to deposit funds for a Non O Visa. Community members confirmed that, if there are sufficient funds to cover annual fees, the accounts might still be open. Issues accessing the online accounts due to requiring a 'Merchant ID' were noted, and several suggestions were provided, including contacting customer service, transferring a small amount to check account status, and noting the regulations about account inactivity fees.

Merchant ID is for business banking as in taking card payments.
Dana *******
Do they have a phone banking? You can access your account with ATM card number and your ATM pin... and know your balance...

I had 6 years of non-activity in Bangkok bank and it's still there. You've got to go through a process of signing forms and wait 2 weeks.

Merchant ID could be a bad translation of User ID ?

Merchant name means a shop name, if that was your online business act ?

Some times the act may keep as dormant ? You need to re-submit all your documents to them make it alive.

First send them email and talk to their customer service.

If you want, you can send me your account number(s). I‘d assume that if I start a transfer to it and it shows your name, the account would still be active.

Merchant ID sounds more like business internet banking.

I used to have one and after a year of no activity they automatically close the account, pray you haven’t any money in there because it’s a goner.
Ivan ************
@Wilmont *****
they only start to charge maintenance after a year of inactivity if the balance is below 2,000B. If it's above that it doesn't matter how much inactivity no maintenance and it's not closed. If it is below 2k it's 50B/month until it is emptied. So if you had 2k in it you are looking at over 5 years inactivity before it's closed.

Thats the thing i cant access my online account any more so i cant tell if there's money in there. I am assuming theres nothing or at least not enough to keep it active which is maybe why i cant loging to my acc online .

If there's money in the accounts, they'd still be open. Most don't realize you get yearly interest payments deposited into your account automatically, which for me covers the cost of the monthly maintenance fees meaning I never loose a balance if I don't touch the account.

@Garrett **********
there's only maintenance fees on a standard savings account if it goes below 2,000B. Above that there's no maintenance fee. Maintenance fee is then 50B/month if under. There can be other account types that have higher thresholds for a maintenance fee, but most people's accounts there shouldn't be a maintenance fee in the first place if the balance is over 2,000. While if it's below that, the interest won't be enough to pay the maintenance fee, 0.5% of 2,000 is 10B a year, 8.5B after tax and maintenance is 50B a month.

@Ivan ***********
Not sure what you're talking about, every bank and account is different. My account/debit card was 50 baht a month and always had over 200k baht in it.
Ivan ************
@Gar****
that's a debit card fee then, they are usually charged annually. That's not an account maintenance fee. It's also on the high side, but if you have a card with accident insurance, it could be 600B/year. Most regular cards are 200-300. If you didn't have the card, it would be zero.

The rules about inactive accounts and maintenance are set by the Bank of Thailand and are the same for all banks- after one year of inactivity, IF the balance is below 2,000, they can start charging a monthly maintenance fee of 50B, until the account is empty.

Could be an updated security policy, happens with my US accounts sometimes out of nowhere I can't log into the app because I'm outside the US, sim card # is different, idk.

If you're not able to call them, try transfering $1 into the account and see if it goes through. If it does, then it's still active. Also, if you're applying for a Non-O outside of Thailand, the money doesn't need to be in a Thai bank. If you're going to enter on a tourist visa and apply for a Non-O in country, the money doesn't have to be vest, just be in your account the same day you apply. I'd just wait until you come over to deal with it honestly.

I'll be doing the latter so i'll work it out when i get there i guess . Thanks.

@Steve *******
Probably best lol. You'll apply for a 90 day Non-O in country first. Money just has to be in the account the day you apply. Then for the 1 year extension the money has to be in the account for 60 days, you'll have plenty of time even if you need to open a new account.

You can call them from UK. There’s an English option

The money is gone bye bye forget This

where is your answer based on Paul?

As long as there is enough funds in the account to cover the annual fees they will keep it open. Contact K bank for the merchant ID issue.
