- it does indeed but a screen appears and clearly warns you that it will cost you 220 baht and asks if you want to proceed...yeah it's 220 baht not 200 I think it's gone up.
- which bank is this? The best rate is the mid market rate which some promise. I have a Chase card that apparently guarantees no foreign ATM fees but I haven't tried it yet because I am sure I did a test from memory and you get a rubbish rate. I might try a test on a small amount and see what rate I get I'm sure it's supposed to tell you but from what I have seen so far the ATM's don't give that kind of information. I think I would have to go through with a withdrawal and check it later but I'm sure it's about 2 points below Wise mid market rate?
- I tried using the Wise card and despite lots of assurances from Wise it doesn't work. Not only do you not get any options regarding currency but you have no way to avoid the 200 baht fee. It just sees it as a foreign card which of course it is
The dam 200 baht fee is a nuisance and as I was recently told by a Bangkok Bank staff member 'you need a Thai bank account'..seems Thai banks have it stitched up on using foreign cards. I found out a huge amount about their banking systems during recent endless email exchanges. The only answer is to have a Thai bank account with online banking then you can use some of their very clever systems and ways of payment (yet to learn).
Did you know Bangkok Bank told me it was impossible to transfer your original account from one branch to another? Guess what the answer is?...yep you have to open up a new account where ever you are and provide all that endless paperwork again! Utter madness and I told them so!
- a mark up is an add on. When I checked Revoult had a much lower exchange rate so taking fees and exchange rates into account Wise returned more money to the customer. I have a very good link that checks it in seconds and it's easy to see who comes out on top but companies change almost daily I'll check my link again lol
For future reference, in the app and no doubt online banking you can make any account a trusted account so it doesn't go through the security checks and is much quicker usually seconds.
It may be though that you have been unlucky with a random pull and check
