Hi all, wanting to buy a good quality motorbike helmet in Thailand any suggestions much appreciated.

Doesn't have to be cheap or very expensive just looking for something known to be quality and safe don't know anything about this subject unfortunately so I wouldn't even know a brand name 😳

I need to visit to try the helmet on so need to be able to visit so I guess mail ordering is out.

Many thanks πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

TLDR : Answer Summary
A community member seeks advice on purchasing a quality motorbike helmet in Thailand. Suggestions from various users include visiting local shops in cities, with mentions of brands like Bell, Real, and Bilmola. Several participants emphasize the importance of trying on helmets for proper fit and recommend a full-face helmet for safety. Specific shops such as Factory Gear Thailand and contacts via Facebook for helmet shops are shared, along with general pricing information and considerations for safety standards.

As others have said, get a full face helmet. I'd recommend one with vents and a drop-down sun visor.

The weight is usually listed on the back. These helmets can get heavy.

Bua Yai, is that near Khong north of Korat?

I bought a lid here last year. They have a good range of helmets in the recognised brands and cheaper ones, all styles open/full face, racing, touring, MX, lots of different designs, race reps, standard colours etc. Not so good for clothing, but great range of lids.

Bell helmets are great and won't cost a fortune. I got one with a visor that changes in the sun with all the safety fun for I believe 6000 baht

Check Lazada to see what makes / models are available in Thailand & get a rough price. When you visit local shops then you’ll know what your looking for and if they don’t have what you want you can try on their stock for your size and then order from Lazada or online.

Hard to find a helmet to fit for some of us. All here are made for Asian head shape which is described as circular. But some have success.

Make sure you buy a full face helmet. Open face helmets don't protect your face etc. Definitely worth it. I probably wouldn't have half my jaw and face if it weren't for a full face helmet

My 2 cents worth:

I use the British Government SHARP results to buy my helmets.

Do bear in mind that not all manufacturers / UK agents / distributors send in their helmets for testing (probably for cost reasons). In addition, they should have the latest ECE 22.06 standards.

But then again, some believe standards are fake and helmets should be bought on how they look ....

I prefer modular / Flip Front for our Asian climates. Never a open face as we always end up on the road in a accident. Unless you're Spiderman and can always land facing up, I advise against a open face for obvious reasons.

My personal good value for money and 4 / 5 star SHARP modular helmets are from Caberg (Duke): moderately priced and MT: budget priced.

I'm biased but if making a trip to Singapore, helmets and bike accessories are the cheapest in South East Asia as there's no / very little duty on these goods, only GST at 8%. That's why knowledgeable bikers from Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia shop for their bike accessories in Singapore. Import duty and tax at your destination is another story.

Cheers

Real or Bilmola both very good brands, search on the web, they have a size chart and you can take measurements to find out your size.

If you try on the helmet and it fits good, then maybe look online for the same brand/model/size for a better price.

Bell is an American brand name. When I raced, you had to replace your helmet every two years because the material integrity is best new. So maybe not buy a used helmet.

Real and bimola make decent helmets 2-3000 baht ish .

I like the bimola ones slightly better as they all seem to come with cutouts for intercom speakers.

Yep, I second Real. I've got a decent touring helmet that's safety certified, relatively comfortable, and was only like 2-3k baht. The shape may not work for all so you'll want to try to fit first if you can.
