I flew in thailand over 20 times in the last 20 years. Never I was asked to show proof. On both tourist and non immigrant visa, as well as visa on arrival.

i had a 90 day non-o based on marriage. I got a 60 days extension for 1,900B as I was waiting for my money to be in my thai bank account for at least 2 months.
