TLDR : Answer Summary
When traveling to Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, it's generally advisable to have a return or onward ticket. While experiences vary among travelers—some report not being asked for one—many recommend securing a ticket to avoid issues with airlines and immigration officials. Airlines often require proof of onward travel to prevent potential costs associated with returning a traveler who is denied entry. It appears some nationalities or specific routes may have different enforcement levels, so having an exit ticket is a prudent choice.
Checked me once I didn’t have a return ticket, they took me to one side I had to book a return ticket on my phone and show them email confirmation or they said they would of sent me back to London🤣 bit stressful as the confirmation email took 2 hours to come😳
Dunno about now, but 6 or 7 years ago Qatar and Etihad always asked for a return flight at check-in. Buying a low cost flight to Siem Reap or Vientiane on the fly usually did the trick. Never been asked for a return flight with a Non-O instead
Also if the airline were to deny you boarding, you simply buy a fully refundable ticket right on the spot, and cancel once you pass through thai immigration
It depends on the country, in Canada you don't need it. And even though there is now a centralised visa website, I believe individual countries are still processing their own applicants as before.
For sure you should have one. It’s not immigration that you need to worry about. It’s the airline not letting you board. An exit ticket anywhere is fine.
It is a requirement of exempt entry. For visas I am not sure but if you can find a cheap one it's a good way to make sure that you don't get any troubles.
I think there is a website which has the country entry information and the requirement for onward tickets. . In principle your airline should be able to answer this question.
I have been over 10 times in the last 10 years. My last trip was in february 2020 and the immigration officer asked for proof of my return. Other than that I was never asked for it.
