they will still need to stamp your passport coming in. Going out automatic gate is fine.

That is probably what I am referring to. In which case, if they are in Thailand then they are best staying till they get the new passport. Otherwise it could cost them a lot to travel somewhere and then be denied and find returning to Thailand is not possible. They might have to return to their own country to sort a new passport out. The other thing would be to speak to an agent and see if anything can be done with extending a visa in Thailand.

Technically speaking the emergency passport is designed for you to return to your home country to get a new passport.

Just to confirm if less than 6o days then turn up at immigration and they stamp your passport

No. Just turn up and get a stamp for 60 days.
