TLDR : Answer Summary
Traveling from Cambodia to Thailand using an Australian emergency passport involves various considerations. While Thailand may accept temporary or emergency passports for short stays of up to 60 days, the passport must be valid for at least six months for re-entry into Australia. Various responses highlight that emergency passports are primarily meant for returning to one's home country rather than for travel to third countries. It is crucial to check the specific entry requirements of both Cambodia and Thailand and consider consulting the Australian embassy for precise guidance.

If you can explane on the border . Why is your emergency in cambodia .. usually its ment for travel home ..

But its just an opinion…

dont think so, but you can try using visa ran service ?

No because emergency passports only serve 2 purposes: either for identity whilst in a foreign country whilst awaiting for a replacement passport from an Australian embassy or consulate overseas and b) for travel from the foreign country where you are back home to Australia. It cannot be used for travel or tourism purposes to a third country and you will not be allowed boarding in the best of cases or entry to a third country and you'll be stuck

Emergency Passports have only one destination, home, except

Can you travel to Thailand on an emergency passport?

Temporary passport / provisional passport / emergency passport of nationals exempted from the Visa Scheme for 60 days is accepted by the Immigration Bureau in Thailand. However, the passport must be valid for not less than six months upon returning to the residence country.

I was told my UK emergency passport could only be used to travel directly back to the UK.

It should be ok as long as you don’t have a string of exempt entries they can see everything on the computer all your stuff is in there

Technically speaking the emergency passport is designed for you to return to your home country to get a new passport.

Not so. An emergency travel document (issued by some countries) is what allows you to return home to get a new passport.

An emergency passport (usually valid for one year) should work the same as a regular passport, but some countries have restrictions on those.

That is probably what I am referring to. In which case, if they are in Thailand then they are best staying till they get the new passport. Otherwise it could cost them a lot to travel somewhere and then be denied and find returning to Thailand is not possible. They might have to return to their own country to sort a new passport out. The other thing would be to speak to an agent and see if anything can be done with extending a visa in Thailand.

I guess the question you need to ask will both Cambodia and Thailand allow you to enter on an emergency Australian passport? You need a minimum of 6 months on your passport to enter Cambodia, do you have that? Thailand should be OK depending on your history

I was with an American family in Vietnam last month, they all lost their passports and wanted to go to Phnom Penh US Embassy for some reason with their emergency passports and we got on a bus, but at the border they were told they cannot enter Cambodia.

I would be checking with the embassy to be sure

Check both countries eligibility, I know Vietnam don’t accept emergency passports so definitely check
