TLDR : Answer Summary
Travelers from countries with a visa exemption agreement, such as Australia, can enter Thailand without an e-Visa and receive a 60-day visa exempt stamp upon arrival. No additional paperwork is required for the stay of 28 days.
Ralph *******
You will get a 60 day visa exemption on arrival. No visa necessary.
Trevor *******
No. As long as your passport you currently hold is on the visa exempt list.

@Ronald ********
yeah but if you were told you need a visa either the person who told this was wrong or you misunderstood the ETA and thought it was a visa so the reply from Mr Macon tried to clarify that I guess. And I doubt very much you got conflicting answers in this group

@Ronald ********
So Thailand is switching its last embassies from in person visa application to the e-visa platform on Jan 1st. However, this doesn’t change any regulations. If you are from a country that is visa exempt (60 days), you remain visa exempt. However, if you need a visa, you apply online instead of in person.

people are dribbling garbage and confusing the Evisa with the proposed ETA which was coming December but it's postponed and no firm date set for it to exist. But currently as an Aussie you don't need anything other than a current passport.
