Why didn't u collect interest on it in the states? Deposit interest rate in Thailand is .51 two years ago it was .41 percent. So it has gone up lol never think of Thailand as a place to garner money

well in most countries for visas to be entered in the passport, the passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months, so as long as the passport has 6 months of life on it - should be good to go.
