Whats your opinion about the strong Baht?

Couple of months ago it was almost 39 B/ Euro. Now on the way to 36 B/ Euro.

I know it is all speculations, but where will it end? Got the feeling it will go down even more to 34-35.

Please, do not laugh, butā€¦

When we open a bank account in Thailand, will be depositing the 800,000thb (each) as required for our visa

Do we earn any interest on it and if so how much

Likewise, if we want to open a savings account, what (if any) interest can we expect to earn?

Have tried to find the answer online to no avail

Thank You

Hi folks, ļæ¼ my Thai wife has a Kasikorn account that I have been sending money to. We are planning to buy a house eventually, but I realize sheā€™s not receiving any interest. Are there bank accounts that pay interest as I can get 4 to 5% in US banks. ļæ¼ on the next trip to Thailand weā€™re going to open up a joint account and move the funds into thatļæ¼. What is the normal for interest payments in Thailand? ļæ¼

Which banks and what types of accounts pay the best interest on our visa deposits? Also, which bank is the easiest to open an account for a farang? I heard Bangkok Bank was the easiest. My wife is Thai and is well respected so I assume I could probably open an account at any bank.

Hi All. Been in Thailand 11 months on O-A visa. Opening bank account was easy but I notice that no interest is given on the large positive balance.

Somewhere I read that it's because of no workers permit. Surely this can't be legal. Yes I understand tax is payable on interest earned and the bank could deduct that, but interest can't be withheld on these grounds.

Please don't comment with 'this is Thailand'. There must be international banking laws that regulate this.

Any positive feedback will be appreciated.

Follow up on the bank debacle this week, hope it helps people open a bank account.

Krungsie bank would not allow me to change from Bang Yai branch to Khon Kaen without a work permit,

I went to UOB (Singapore bank Thailand)

I showed them my non 0 extension based on being over 50 and my driving license. 10 minutes later a new bank account,

They are very Farrang friendly.

interest rates are ok too.

1 bhat to 100,000 1.5% interest

100,001 to 200,000 2% interest

200,001 to 300,000 3.3% interest

then 0.5% on anything over the 300,000bhat.

I then went back to Krungsie bank to withdraw and close the account, as my original bank was in Bang Yai they were charging me 730 bhat to withdraw the cash, (not happy)

They then proceeded to call their head office who then said I could change my account to Khon Kaen, (too late the cashier had already put the withdrawal through. so I copped a 730 bhat charge.

UOB do not do Foreign currency accounts here, but they do in Sukhamvit,

I then went to Bangkok bank here in Khon Kaen and again no problem opening a foreign currency account.

Be careful with the fcd accounts with the banks as there is a charge of 2% on withdrawing foreign currency

Its a minimum 2% charge on the withdrawal.

If you withdraw in Bhat there is no charge.

ps. I am not recommending, just sharing info.
