I'm just checking because I haven't been back for a couple of years and this time its with a husband and kids.

I'm American and the rest of the family is Portuguese. We are applying from within Portugal.

So we would like to stay as long as we can on tourist visa. In the past I'd always just get the 60 day with the 30 day extension (single entry.)

On the website it talks about a multi entry tourist visa and Google was discussing this can be used for up to 6 months? Is this correct?

Sorry if I'm confusing, just want to figure out the longest we can stay on a TR visa.

Thank you for your clarifications 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is inquiring about the maximum duration their family can stay in Thailand on a tourist visa, specifically discussing the multiple entry tourist visa available for Americans and Portuguese nationals applying from Portugal. Comments clarify that the multiple entry tourist visa is valid for 6 months from its issuance, allowing for multiple 60-day entries with the opportunity to extend the stay close to 9 months through strategized border trips. It is also mentioned that the visa application might require proof of planned multiple trips.

A multiple entry tourist visa is valid for 6 months from issue. On each entry you’ll get stamped in for 60 days. Timing the border bounces right you can get almost 9 months off that visa

However you can normally only get that visa from your home country or country of legal residence.

Also when you apply for it they will require proof that you need a multiple entry one - ie they want to see multiple planned trips. Otherwise they may just issue a single entry and not refund the application fees.

Multiple entry tourist visa is valid for 9 months, but you're still only stamped in for 60 days each time you enter Thailand. If you want more time after your 60+30 then you have to leave and re-enter again. You can do it one last time right before the visa expires and get almost 9 months in Thailand.
