It is in the 2017 Immigration Act but was previously only enforced for land border entries in a calendar year

So why didn't you get the multi-entry Tourist Visa for your trip because, even before the recent changes, what you are doing was still risky?

So you don't have a 90 day Non-O which means if you want an Extension you will need new insurance. People prefer the Non-O as there is no mandatory Thai insurance requirement.

Yes, when you have less than 30 days of your 90 left and your 800k banked money has seasoned for 2 months you can apply for your first 12 month extension (or you may be able to use an income affidavit from your Embassy if they still issue them). Go to your Immigration Office before hand to get THEIR list of requirements for this extension and away you go. You will need a re-entry permit, 1000B for single or 3800B for multiple, get it when your 12 months have been inked in.

Arrive on a Non-O but were you married in Thailand? If not do this before you leave for Thailand -

1. IN THE UK: Marriage certificate legalised by the FCDO in Milton Keynes

2. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO Translated

3. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO AND their translations verified by the Thai Embassy in London

4. IN THAILAND: All the above (i.e. all 4 documents & their translations, making 8 in total) Legalised by MFA in Bangkok

then register your marriage at your Amphur in time to get your extension with your banked funds seasoned.

The initial Non-O is 90 days then extend for 12 months every year thereafter by meeting the requirements with no mandatory insurance

You don't have to go "home" to apply for a DTV, it can be done in any neighbouring country.

You cannot get a Non-OA in Thailand, you purchase a 12 month extension based on the original Non-O for 1900B by meeting the requirements. In fact a Non-OA is a waste of money as an in country 12 month extension requires the continuation of the mandatory Thai insurance plus the same 800k financials as the Non-O extension so a double whammy.
