When people do the Non-O Savannaket run, what is there to see and do nearby while you wait for your visa?  We are in the process of getting our car passport approved so will have transport to travel outside. Any suggestions please?

Nothing really. The last time I was there I had a few beers and a massage. The bars are a bit naf compared to the likes of Pattaya etc.
