I was led to believe that until the kids were 20 there wwas no problem. Even though my youngest is now nearly 22 there has not been a problem.

Been through Schipol many times and there has never been a problem. I thought the information was very clear on the site?

just look up . 'do thai passport holders require a transit visa to layover in Amsterdam' The answer is no and if you cannot find that out for yoursel in less than one minute you ought not be allowed by yourself let alone taking care of anyone else. People on this site are more than ready to assist anyone usually but generally we are not research assistants for the totally inept? rant over.
