Also CAD. We found that applying for the Non O in Canada was pretty much the same as the single entry tourist visa by the time it was said and done. Just a couple of extra bank details. It costs more up front but you don't have to pay for and get the 30 day extension when in Thailand. You'd just get your income verification affidavit and then get your yearly extension. Doing it off the tourist visa, you'll be paying for the 30 day extension and again for the yearly extension.
you would deal with the Vancouver Consulate if needed... I found them much easier to deal with then Ottawa. You could do the e-visa for 60(+30). It's all online and easy to do. That way your dates are covered with only a quick trip to immigration in Thailand.
For the Non O application, some CAD banks will issue an income or balance verification letter. Ours didn't, so we just provided copies of our bank statements for the prior 3 months with the required balance. When going for the extension in Thailand, for Canadians, take your proof of income statement to the embassy or consulate and they will provide you with an affidavit letter that you take to immigration. You get print your proof of income from the CRA website.
PM me and I can let you know exactly what we did and how it worked. Edit - I do recommend that you open a Thai bank account for regular daily expenses, makes it so much easier then trying to get a good CAD card that works with everything.
Sorry, hit enter before I finished! The best part for us Canadians is that we don't need to open and deposit funds to a Thai bank account. As Canadian we can go to the Canadian Consulate in Chiang Mai, or embassy in BKK and get an income verification letter. Then you can take that to the immigration office in Thailand to get your year extension, along with all your other documents.
You can also get them to verify your marriage license/certificate so that one of you can be a "trailing spouse" so you only need to verify the one income.
also Canadian. You can apply for a 90 Non O before leaving Canada on the evisa site. It has similar requirements to the Single Entry tourist visa, bank statements, book a few night accommodations, etc. The difference being you will get stamped in for 90 days and do not need to go to immigration for an extension. The single entry tourist visa will get you a 60 day entry stamp and you would need to make a trip to Immigration while in Thailand to get the 30 days extension. You can get assistance from the Thai Consulate in Vancouver if you are in Western Canada, the Thai Embassy in Ottawa if in the East.
Also Canadian and did this exact thing last year. You don't need to put 800,000thb in a Thai bank account. We both got a Non O e-visa prior to departure... Vancouver Consulate were really helpful with our questions. For Canadians you have the option to get an income verification letter from the Canadian Embassy or Consulate. All you need to do is print off the Statement of Income from CRA. We also got them to verify our status as married so that I was able to be a "trailing spouse" on my husbands yearly extension. It was very, very easy to do. You can PM me for more details if you'd like.
