I am planning to travel from Canada to Thailand for 90 days on Oct 1st 2022.

Can I just show up and get 45 days, then apply for a 45 extension when in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original question concerns the possibility of arriving in Thailand to obtain a 45-day visa on arrival, followed by a 45-day extension. However, the community responses clarify that the visa on arrival currently allows for only 30 days, with potential extensions for an additional 30 days. It is suggested to apply for a tourist visa before traveling to ensure a 60-day stay, plus a possible 30-day extension, bringing the total stay to 90 days. The situation regarding the 45-day visa implementation remains unclear, with it still being 30 days until any changes are confirmed.

The 45 day is supposed to start in October, currently 30 days which can be extended for another 30 days.

We are in the same boat visiting Thailand for 90 days

We are getting the 60 day tourist visa then I have been told SHA hotels can get you the paperwork for the 30 day extension.

what paperwork is the SHA hotel going to get you? I think you have been told wrong?, you just need to go to the local immigration and ask for 30 day extension and pay 1900 baht, they will advise you what paperwork you need as every immigration office is different.

Every hotel in Thailand is legally required to file a TM30 when you arrive. This is why they ask for your passport and make a copy, so they can submit the TM30. You can just ask them for proof of the TM30 and take that with you along with other paperwork to your local immigration office and get a 30 day extension. You can do this when you have 30 days or less left of your tourist stamp-in.

if I apply for the visa before I come online, are the 60 days only active from when I actually touch down in Thailand?

@Byron ********
as long as you enter Thailand by the expiration date on the visa (which will be 90 days from the date it is issued) you will be stamped into Thailand for 60 days.

I'd think it's better to just go to the source.

you would deal with the Vancouver Consulate if needed... I found them much easier to deal with then Ottawa. You could do the e-visa for 60(+30). It's all online and easy to do. That way your dates are covered with only a quick trip to immigration in Thailand.

and they do visas online and by mail.

Wise advice!!

The 45 days is not official yet. It's still 30 days until passed into law.

It does not appear the extensions will be 45 days, so it will either be 30+30 or possibly 45+30.

If you want to guarantee yourself 90 days, apply for a tourist visa before you leave and get 60 days on arrival + 30 day extension.

What are the documents required for a tourist sticker visa of 90 days validity?
Brandon ************
a tourist visa will get you stamped in for 60 days which you can extend for 30. Check your local consulate for their requirements as it differs from office to office.
