# Issued Tourist Visa (TR) despite applying for DTV with full documentation – Any similar experiences?
Sawa dee ka everyone! seeking advices or similar experiences regarding a frustrating outcome from the Thai Embassy in Tokyo.
I am a Japanese national and recently applied for the DTV (Remote Worker category). I have a clean immigration history with 3.5 years of previous work experience in Thailand under a working visa (no overstays, no visa runs).
The issue: Despite applying for the DTV and paying the 52,000 JPY fee, I was issued a 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (TR) instead :((((
My application process was intense:
1. Since I’ve been living abroad recently, my bank accounts and employment contracts are from outside Japan.
2. After my initial submission, the Embassy requested Tax Returns, Bank Statements, and my Employment Contract to be NOTARIZED in Japan. This cost me extra time and money, but I completed it perfectly.
3. They asked me 2nd additional document requests, I provided proof of my current stay in Japan and a detailed professional portfolio to prove my remote work status. I submitted those.
It is extremely difficult to understand why they requested a "Notarized Contract" (which is specifically for DTV) only to issue a standard Tourist Visa. It feels like a clerical error or an unfair downgrade without explanation.
Has anyone else applied for the DTV and been downgraded to a TR visa despite having no "defects" in their documents?
For those in this situation:
* Are you entering with the TR visa and planning to re-apply for DTV later?
* Should I try to challenge this with the Embassy, or is it a lost cause?
Honestly, the lack of transparency in this process is incredibly frustrating. I’d love to hear your thoughts or if anyone has successfully "converted" or appealed such a decision.
People keep saying you can’t keep coming in on a 60 day visa exempt. We have been travelling Asia the last 3 years, so end up coming into Thailand app 3 or 4 times a year. If I shouldn’t be using visa exempt people say get dev. But we aren’t working we are travelling, so don’t fit the requirements. What else should we do?We are not retiring here either, so the visa exempt is our only option that I know of. Any advice on this would be appreciated.
Is everything going smoothly with the e-extension process these days? ☹️
I've been trying to complete the visa e-extension through VFS since Friday, but the payment isn't going through successfully. The valid end date is August 12, which falls on a holiday, so I'm worried that I might only be able to extend it by August 9. If the e-extension doesn't work out, would it be possible to extend it through a walk-in process?
I've already done a 2-month TR extension, two times walk-in extensions, and one e-extension. If I have to do another walk-in extension, will there be any penalties? I'd like to know more about this.
Hi.Im arrivingin Thailand end of October hopefully for a 4 month stay..What is the best visa option.I am happy to exit Thailand and return near the end!
Hi All, my husband & I want to visit Thailand for 90 days starting in August. On the Thai evisa site, which is the easiest evisa to apply for and receive? It looks to me like the Tourist Visa (TR) is the easiest one, rather than the STV. But I'm wondering if there is a max number of days I can ask for under the Tourist Visa?
(I'm a US/Canadian citizen and my husband is a UK citizen.)
Hello Group! I'm seeking tips about satisfying the accommodation and onward travel components of a Tourist Visa (TR) application. I included my flight arrival info and hotel bookings for the first 7 days while in Thailand. But, E-visa Immigration staff is requesting further documentation for the application: Onward flight + Accommodations for my entire stay (60 days) in Thailand.
Does anyone know if Immigration will ask for onward flight and/or my entire accommodations itinerary when I land at BKK? I intend to book an onward flight and hotel that I can change or cancel.
I’m curious if those bookings still need to be “live” when I land, or if I’m in the clear on arrival as long as I was approved for the TR visa?
