We use Tangerine and transfer the $$ using Wise to our BKK bank. We have our Wise code set up and use the bill payment method which works. As a Canadian you can, for now, do the affidavit of income with a consulate so don't need the $$ to be transferred in a certain way.
we used a copy of the proof of income statement from the prior years taxes. You can get it from your CRA account. We had our bank statements as well but it wasn't necessary, unfortunately our bank doesn't issue certification letters. This is what the consulate in Chiang Mai told us to bring: "Please bring your original passport, any document or statement showing your income or an income tax statement, and the notary service fee of THB 1,250 in cash only. You will be required to confirm/swear your statement on the affidavit and sign in front of consular officer at the Consulate. Then a letter confirming pension income will be issued to you in the same morning". If you r bank issues a letter that would probably work but best to ask
Early speed boat from Lipe, usually 9am. Take a private taxi or bus to Hat Yai airport. Can catch most flights after 3pm if you get the earlier boat. We use private taxi because they are quicker.
get an Non O for 90 days from his local Thai Embassy before he leaves Canada, this can be done online and he no longer needs to mail the passport. He'll get 90 days stamped in on arrival. In Thailand, with 30-45 days left on the entry stamp go to the Canadian Embassy or consulate and get the affidavit mentioned by Philip, just needs to provide his Proof of Income from CRA. Then go to immigration and get the year extension based on retirement. Once he is ready to head back and sell everything, he can easily get a re-entry permit at the local immigration or at Suvarnabhumi airport when he departs. We did this last fall and it's super easy. The Thai Consulate in Vancouver was really helpful in answering questions and the overall process. The Canadian Consulate in Chiang Mai was great to deal with in getter the affidavit.
We were advised to get our original Non O in our home country before coming to Thailand. Once we applied for the year extension, we were able to get me on a trailing spouse. We are Canadian and had the local consulate do an affidavit of income for my husband and verify our marriage certificate. I can't say if this works with the 800,000THB method.
was this for a regular extension based on retirement? We did that in Chiang Mai and didn't need any photos, landlord ID or blue book. They accepted the TM30, rental agreement copy, prove of income affidavit from our consulate (yay Canada) and gave us back the hand drawn map. I guess maybe it was that badly drawn 🙂.
There are a couple of places in Suvarnabhumi that are walk in. Search the group, some people have commented on them. There is always Dr Donna, Medconsult as well but I believe you need an appointment.
not sure. That might be for people who need a visa to transit, but as a US citizen you don't so shouldn't be an issue. I'd recommend getting flights that avoid anything to do with Pearson (YYZ). It's a shit show, flights randomly being cancelled, no information and security is taking hours. YVR wasn't much better last month. We were connecting to a Canadian location and ended up waiting in a hallway for an hour for security to show up so we could transit.
