Jo Moser. I've lived in Thailand for over 12 years and never had to leave my passport with immigration. I assume they gave you a receipt for it, so carrying the receipt with a copy of passport data page and current visa/extension will suffice

If fully vaxxed you'll be able to get to Phnom Penh and apply for a Thailand Pass. You'll still have to do the Day 1 test and get the $20,000 insurance.

Why is immigration holding your passport? That seems very irregular

Unfortunately you don't qualify for it. You can take your chances on the day it expires but have a Plan B in place, as you will probably get the "seven days to leave" stamp

Will I need to return every 30 days for COVID extensions at the Pattaya office, or will I receive a 60-day stamp on my next visit?

Some offices put your application "under consideration" which is what this is. I wouldn't be too concerned about "next time'" as there probably won't be a next time. The Covid Extensions are coming to an end (already finished for non-immigrant).

Nick Wat..Do what James has suggested. But do have a plan to leave in place..If you go a day or two before expiry, worse case they will give you seven days to leave. Make sure any flight you have is in this timeframe so you don't go on to overstay
