TLDR : Answer Summary
The recent news regarding the Special Tourist Visa (STV) has prompted a discussion among members about its current status and requirements. Users have noted that the announcement hasn't yet been formalized in the royal gazette and expressed skepticism about the reliability of the information. Additionally, one commenter highlighted the complexity and multitude of requirements associated with applying for the STV visa, questioning why visiting Thailand would necessitate such extensive documentation.

Because you can eke it out for 270 days.

This has not been announced yet in the royal gazette, and the person who announced this is simply a media person, and not someone who actually makes the laws. I would do any actions on this... yet.

The Post version said the Cabinet approved it, but yes even that doesn't make it official.

"The cabinet resolved on Tuesday to extend the Special Tourist Visa (STV) programme for one year until Sept 30 next year to woo well-to-do visitors.

Deputy government spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said the cabinet approved the proposal from the Tourism and Sports Ministry to extend the special visa programme for visitors' long stays from its original end this Thursday."

well then how the hell can anyone ever make any plans. if i make a plan some govt entity will not agree its up and running. who can one trust on this matter? all this runaround is turning off potential people wanting to enter. THAILAND HAS TO ACCEPT THAT BRINGING IN TOURISTS WILL MEAN BIGGER COVID NUMBERS. ITS A TRADEOFF. MONEY IN THE COFFERS. OR BODYS IN COFFINS.

Not true. The Phuket numbers show it. Minimal risk from vaccinated tourists. The biggest risk is cross border trafficking.

Always better to wait for factual approval, true. But is also true, that many of the grumpy naysayers (especially common in your groups as well) have simply been wrong altogether. Nobody is going to be kicked out of Thailand any time soon. COVID extensions will be extended as will be other means (like e.g. the STV) to keep people in the country. The reality of the matter is, Thailand is happy about every foreign spender right now and will allow people to come and stay accordingly.

...IMHO ... "the end is near" for the pre- Covid seasoned border and visa runners...and I lost my passport trick groupies....I now have a new passport ...to show Thai Consulates and Embassy's in seeking another Ed Visa or Tourist visa et al. At what point will the COVID extensions end...its apparent Thailand also wishes to get back to normal in immigration matters. Early 2022 will be that year. (BTW I am all for keeping as many as possible in Thailand).
