How does the one-year Multiple Entry AO visa work with re-entry and expiry dates for Australians?

I have a one year Multiple Entry AO visa Australian passport obtained from Thai consulate in Sydney. I realise this can effectively be pushed out to two years, as each time I enter Thailand I am given a 12-month stamp. My question is, as I need to return to Australia every three months (for approximately two weeks, for personal business), does this mean my visa will be effective for only 15 months, as once the visa expiry has passed, and I am outside of Thailand I will not be allowed back in, irrespective of what date is shown on the last entry stamp? Logic suggests this is the case, but I wanted to be sure this is how it operates. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user clarifies the operation of a one-year Multiple Entry AO visa for Australian passport holders. They question if leaving Thailand every three months would limit the visa's effective use to 15 months due to the expiration date of the visa once they are outside Thailand. Comments provide information on purchasing re-entry permits to ensure that each entry stamp remains valid throughout the visa's duration.

You buy a Single Re-Entry permit for 1.000 Thb or a Multiple Re-Entry Permit for 3.800 Thb at your local Immigration Office. You can buy them at the International airports but some offices on airports have a 200 Thb service fee. You need one prior to leaving Thailand.

Just another question on this. Is the reentry permit obtained at the airport when leaving, or at immigration prior to leaving, and what is the cost involved?

You will get stamped in for a whole year every time you enter thailand for the validity of the visa.

IF you are going to leave the country and not return until after the VISA is expired get a re-entry permit to keep the last stamp (which would have been for a year) valid so you're stamped in until that exipration date when you return
