Eric Speed ED visas currently 5-6 weeks processing time, I am told this week by two schools. The 90 days renewals are done IN COUNTRY at local immigration, maybe this changed due to covid.
In my opinion, you should look to take a border bounce tour (out/in same-day) with an agent, getting 45 days currently on visa exempt, and get a new visa application in asap (but first I'd make an enquiry to confirm your current application will be cancelled)
this changed during covid, I guess to keep the schools in business and teachers/admin in jobs, and certainly does provide a new income stream for all establishments involved.
Pauls points are be very valid, and many times in your future here in Thailand you will come unstuck by these, and maybe you'll remember being told, and then understand the link. But why not rent out your home ? What personal reasons ? I have a friend who not rents out his ski chalet in France, or villa in Ibiza, but it's because he's super rich and doesnt want idiots shitting in his toilet. You have concerns of a financial nature, and you have a solution, but by you wont say why you can't accept the simple solution infront of you. You have to be 100% honest and open if you want to get back 100% honest and open.
I think if you travel in to thailand from less desirable countries, you will see a completely different rate of more indepth interrogations on that population...
oh well in that case nobody will ever be asked for onward travel at thai immigration, and by that same stupidity, we can say that nobody will ever need 'proof of funds' or 'proof of accomodation booking' upon arrival in Thailand. That's just 2 visitors out of an estimated 30 million this year. The facts are, that Thai immigration can chose to refuse you entry, on those three proofs, of onward travel, funds (inc the 20k baht cash) and accomodation booking'. Stating on a large fb forum used by thousands for accurate info, that your mate Dave did not get asked this time, does not help in anyway, infact it muddies the water for those who don't realize the above facts. And this kind of 'unhelpful' help you offer is the second most discussed item on the forums.
you'll have to ask about. Some visa agents, you'll have to be present at immigration yourself, other agents take your passports and documents and it's done as if like magic, but I hear that is becoming less common. You'll have to check again about your family, but I imagine both you and your family would need to be present.. As for visa run / border bounce tour companies, they are small local companies, so you'll have to look for your location. You'll find there is often one situated right at the gates of any immigration office, or very close by.
application - when a theory (or set of rules) is actually applied to the real life situation. 'In Theory / In practice' . Does not relate to any application form.
yes all faces remain intact, and even more favourably no doubt. Can I ask, was it same I/O, same office ? What was the mechanics of the process to make it understood, out of curiosity ? (Obviously brown paper envelope - Agent, Agent - I/O. So I don't know if it actually counts as a u-turn as such, but I'm sure it will do for you 😉
