I'd keep 'big money' somewhere safe, like some kind of Blackrock Fund, giving a good return, sending only that return on your capital, over to your single Thai bank account, and only as you need it, and using your ATM card and phone app for spending/transfers. What would be sensible is to open a second account for emergencies should your primary get compromised, with another big Thai bank, SCB, KASIKORN, KRUNGSRI or KRUNGTHAI just in case of nuclear fallout, and keep 2000 baht in there to keep the account open, and check in on the app every 3-6 months.

and call to chase you to deposit ??!? Got scam written all over it. But then many banks were pushing some health/life insurance at 5000-10,000 baht just to open an account ..

the branch at which you open your account is considered your 'primary/main' branch, and a few services/requirements must be done there, but you can change this to a more preferred branch (probably have to do this in that primary branch too, but I did over the phone as my primary branch had closed and they automatically moved it to another branch, not of my choice).

well then 24 hours in Sadao will change it so much more. Think Tarrantino's 'From Dusk 'til Dawn', Blade Runner, Mad Max and Alice in wonderland all rolled into one.

You sound likes it is no challenge whatsoever, physically or psychologically, to move around like that. I know many 45 year olds would gasp at your plans. I wish you many more youthful years 'tax dodging' your way around Asia 🙏🏻

with all due respect David, you're very lucky to have reached 82 years old. You could just do a tax return and pay tax due on the money you TRANSFER into Thailand (we have no reason to believe that tax treaty's won't be honoured, and what is tax exempt in home country should be honoured here). You might forget to do a tax return. You might chose not to do a tax return. By the time they catch up with you, you will be in other realms where tax is no concern. But respect for trying to do the right thing of course. 🙏🏻

yes they have written it, in writing, or print at least. It is your duty to find it, read it, understand it and abide by the new tax rules. I'm sorry i don't have a copy easy to hand. It was sent to me through this Facebook group a while back after I posted an enquiry. If anyone has, please drop a copy/link here. 👍

yeah because Thailand immigration are known for their integrity concerning 'stamps'. They say "never a hooky stamp has ever been issued.

don't listen to that joker, I've been in your position, I maxed out the tourist/exempt stamps, an ED visa, and after buying a house here and committing everything to Thailand, I went with Elite visa as I didn't want to risk rejection. You should wait and see these 'visa changes', if they even happen. 👍
