Exact same thing happened to me a couple of days ago. I had to go to a small office at Phaya Thai BTS station to manually enter passport info, phone and address. I think plastic USA is using on passports now blocks scanning.

I had no problem getting the letter but found it useful to have copy of an old one so they know exactly what you want.

Just last week I got the 12 month statement and letter from Bangkok Bank Headquarters just like I have done in previous years….so no change.

A second account is a very good idea as you can keep your big money in one account and use the other for operating expenses using ATM card and QR payments. A FX account can also be useful.

I recently paid $50 for e-visa through government agency and felt this was excessive.

To move dollars in FX account to baht it’s necessary to use BB website. Cannot do this on mobile app.
