I only need to use facial recognition for large payments like paying rent, itusually tells me i have a face covering on too and i don't even have a beard, just need to get into really bright light.
I've also lived here for years and haven't had much of an issue in Bangkok, though our apartment does have a backup generator but I've never lost power or water in a hotel in Thailand
If this were the case then even cooking your own meals at home would be questionable without the relevant work permit. Whatever the law actually states, i believe you are at very minimal risk if doing things at home only and for no financial gain.
