Hi, I hope you can help. Unfortunately I was deported and received a 5 year ban for overstay. After the 5 years are up will the ban be automatically lifted or do I need to apply to have it lifted?

I have just been asked

A guy john had overstayed his visa by over 3 months and is now home in France, he asked me the procedure to get a non 0 90 day visa, i told him to check first if he could get back here, as i think if someone overstays by so long it is a year ban on coming back,

He then asked about a non 0 based on marriage, he is not married as yet they are planning.

Im guessing that would not make a difference, i asked if he could get any visa, he said he couldnt get one before, petsonally i think its a bit fishy.

anyway am i right to tell him he needs to wait till a year is finished?
