Advice needed about money from UK to Thailand. My daughter has recently moved to Thailand and is getting her Ed visa sorted. I'll be visiting her and sending her money, we both have wise cards (as yet unused). It suggests you can 'spend like a local' but I can't see how that works when she says they don't have contactless anywhere, also she doesn't know how to transfer her rent using Wise. She's always paid in cash and has to withdraw cash weekly. Is this how it is locally??

She's been taking money out of her uk bank at ATMs and being charged fees both ends. She tried to get cash using her passport in a bank to avoid atm fees but they refused.

I guess what I'm asking is what's the best way to use the wise card, she has a physical one and digital one, with different numbers (not sure why she has two?). It may be that I'm a dinosaur, but advice would be much appreciated.

Hy folks , just for a change a non visa question .

Been coming for about 20 years , used to bring travellers cheques , then just cash .

This time because I'm doing a 3 month trip , cash is a bit dubious . Talking 15k English , now I usually bring 8k no drama . But bit wary of carrying this much .

The bank would charge me 2.5% every transaction , not something I'm willing to pay .

Suggestions....

Hey folks looked into all the things mentioned , some cards said free use abroad but small print had a limit each month .

Starling Bank seems to not charge at all . So signed up with them .

I have seen many posts regarding Thai baht from ATM’s and their charges. I had a friend here a few months ago, who went to an ATM to draw 1000 pounds sterling from his UK bank account, after declining the ATMs exchange rate and allowing his bank to use their rate, he was offered 39,000 Baht, he proceeded, but the card was declined. He then transferred 1000 pounds sterling to my UK bank account and I transferred that to my Thai bank account via Wise, he received 42500 Baht for the same £1000. This illustrates the amount of money, the ATMs make.

How can one get money (cheaply) into Thailand, from a Wise account, without a Thai bank account? Can I have that money transferred to bank branches here to collect? Any services which do something like this for a more affordable rate than withdrawing from my south African account at ATMs.

Hello all,

I'm a Canadian, but I have an Indonesian bank account with Permata Bank. I noticed that Bangkok Bank actually owns Permata, so I'm wondering if anyone knows whether using a Bangkok Bank atm with my Permata card will wave the fee associated with using a foreign card? I emailed Bangkok Bank to ask, but I haven't received a response yet. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks
