First time visa runner. Going into another country (Malaysia) how to exchange money? Do I bring many crispy 1,000 THB notes and exchange at one of the exchange counters or take money out of an ATM? I have Bangkok bank.

I will be in Bangkok today arriving at Central Pinklao bus station and leaving BKK to Narita Japan airport. I would like to get some US currency preferably 100 dollar notes from ATM or BKK super rich or the like using a credit card. Is this possible and any suggestions about where is appreciated. This question is for Americans with a Schwab account. I have downloaded Wise and connected it to my account. Now I did a direct transfer last year when I paid for my Elite Visa and there were no issues at all. My question is what benefits, if any, are there to using Wise instead of just doing a direct transfer from Schwab? Shoule I use Wise when I move in July or skip the middle man? Thanks for your answers!

What is the least expensive way to get Thai currency, (i’m in Thailand, now )I have a Capital One visa and a bank debit card which happens to be a MasterCard if that makes any difference

Edit, I’ve had lots of feedback on this, and nobody recommended AMEX.

However, I’ve done a bit more research? And for a platinum Amex I will get a refund ( in airports $) of the full 12 month card fee, plus a few airport lounge passes, and free travel insurance, (for up to 180 days, there is some small print on this and I can’t speak to this insurer till next week). The Mastercard has 120 free days insurance. And a ‘priority pass’ lounge membership but I think I still have to pay $35usd to use the lounge.(not interested in that).

Also, a lot of people suggested wise, (i already applied for a card). But i am not sure how best to use this to its full potential. I might be going to other countries, yet tbc.

Amex or Mastercard.

I am considering getting a credit card to put my overseas travel on. They both offer free travel insurance and air points ( from New Zealand).

The Amex has better rewards, but I am unsure if it would be as useful to me as the Mastercard. ( I seem to recall that Amex charges the retailer more, so some won’t accept Amex).

Alsobthe mastercard has free overseas ATM withdrawals ( but high cash advance fees). Has anyone been able to havk the system, overpay their balance so its in credit, and get free cash withdrawal overseas?

Hi guys, I hear plenty of buzz about “wise” as a good alternative for money withdrawal while in Thailand. Is “wise” an App? Do I just download it and link my bank acct to it? And then withdraw from an ATM in Thailand? Any advice much appreciated and apologies, I know this is a very basic question to many.
