TLDR : Answer Summary
The best way to use a Wise card for accessing Thai Baht without a Thai bank account involves adding funds in USD to your Wise account. You can then withdraw Thai Baht from ATMs, preferably those associated with banks like Krungthai for better rates. It's recommended to always let your bank handle the currency conversion instead of the ATM for more favorable exchange rates. Some users suggest using apps and direct banking transfers, while others mention alternatives like Western Union. It's essential to be aware of fees associated with frequent withdrawals.
If you can get a Charles Schwab account - that's the best as they reverse intl ATM fees each month. No transfers, best exchange rates, and just withdraw cash or swipe card wherever you go.
Install the wise app on your phone. Add money into the wise account and later use it at the ATM in Thailand. You can always add money to your wise account at any time and anywhere.
u can use any currency u like with wise card .usa dollars no better .i send uk £ to my thai ac and get better rate than u do at the exchanges . cant say i use wise card much in thailand ,i use it elsewhere as i have a thai account .
You transfer money from your home bank account into your Wise account. Then you go to the Wise website on your computer or the Wise app on your phone. You open your home currency balance and choose to convert to Thai Baht. Now you have two balances in your Wise account. You use the physical Wise card at any ATM in Thailand to withdraw Thai Baht. You can also import the virtual Wise card (and the virtual version of the physical Wise card) into the wallet on your phone and use your phone to tap and pay from the Wise balance when you are making purchases.
The ATM company (possibly a local bank) and Wise are two separate companies. Wise can control what it charges for withdrawals from them but not what the ATM company charges to access the cash the ATM holds. Wise is not charging you a fee for the first $350 but the ATM company will charge each time you use the machine.
You can use the Wise card at ATMs but I think if you withdraw more than $200 US per month, wise starts adding fees and they can be pretty high. If you’re already in Thailand, it might not be possible to get another card but for future trips, a Schwab account card reimburses ATM fees and charges no fees for international purchases and withdrawals.
Always let your bank do the conversion. The ATM conversion rate is not good in the difference can be significant.
Load your wise card up with USD, convert your selected amount of $$ to Thai baht and use as a normal debit card or withdraw baht from any atm you around. Any unused baht can be converted back to USD and sent back to your usual bank at the end of your trip.
Add US $ from your US bank to your Wise balance online first. Choose baht at the ATM, (I use Blue ATM-each colour represents a different bank, and different rates). Withdraw bahts using your card or your phone. (Depending if you ordered a physical card or set up your phone)
I’m same as your case. don’t do that like you. Must open different currency jars in your Wise account. Wise exchange rate is very good of course it will get charge fee and ATM as well. But I will transfer the THB from Wise to my Thai Bank. Alternatively, you may open Charles Schwab account in USA and ATM is no charge aboard.
