Hi, I am retired and coming to Thailand, been a number of times over the last 12 years and I wondered if it is worth while opening a Thai Bank account. I want to come over on the 60 day VOA 2 or 3 times a year and would spend no longer then 180 days in the country in any one year. I have a Revolut account that I have a Thai Baht account in, which means I can exchange Stirling to Baht at bank inter exchange rates with no commission, I will pay an ATM fee for cash withdrawals but no fee to Revolut and would bring cash to exchange at the Super Rich bank as and when needed and use my Revolut card as well for purchases. The Revolut account also gives me 90 days Health insurance cover up to £10m per trip. I don't want to get a retirement visa at least for the next 2-3 years until I have checked every thing out, so the question is is it worth opening a bank account and what are the pro's and con's given that I only intend to visit for 60 days go back to UK for a couple of month then back for 60 and so on. TIA

I want to open a bank account in Udon Thani, where my Thai wife has a property. On my last visit to the bank I was told I need our marriage certificate, propety book and visa stay of more than one month in my passport. I think I need also a thai mobile Sim. / mobile number??

Anyone give me some guidence.

I also plan to eventually stay in Thailand when I retire from work in UK. I still want to pop back to UK atheist twice a year. I need a visa and can I put large sum of money in bank to qualify to rules required to stay in Thailand..

Hello everyone.

I am receiving 1,500,000 baht in cash from a family member in Thailand. I have an account with Bangkok Bank and I am wondering if I will have to pay tax for this cash deposit? Or will there be any trouble depositing this large amount of cash?

Glorious afternoon everyone. A bit of a dilemna. I am 3 months into my second year of non o visa and I live in Pattaya. When I first took out my original visa I lived and banked in Phitsanulok then I moved here. So two things; firstly I have to pay charges to put in and take out money from my bank in Pattaya because it's not my home registered bank. Am I better off closing my account and opening an account in Pattaya to avoid these irritating costs (cheap Charlie). If I close my account I would probably change bank type. Secondly, what would happen to my status regarding my bank account if I do change banks or branch, when it comes to renewing my non o in December, as I would only be able to show statements for the next 8 months rather than full 12 months they ask for. TIA. Barry

Does any one bank at Bangkok Bank?? I've heard that you have to buy Health Insurance if you want to bank there to get the non-immigrant O visa.

As Canadian arriving from Cambodia at the land crossing (Charat, Buachet District, Surin 32230, Thailand) I'm required to have 10,000 baht, (I understand they may require 20,000, at the officers discretion) any idea's if it is possible to withdraw baht from an ATM/cash point, in Cambodia, Siem Reap? Or can I have a combination of USD's and baht? I hear there are casinos at this border in Cambodia so I may be able to buy baht there, as Thai's are crossing the border to gamble? I'm just not in the habit of carry that much baht as I'm traveling overland via Vietnam & Cambodia. Ideas? Thanks
