The USD is getting weaker and weaker as I wait for my bank account to marinate for three months. I heard that people have been okay with transferring that money to Wise in baht. What’s the general consensus? We will be seasoned by the end of May.
Answer summary
The post discusses concerns about the weakening USD while waiting to meet the three-month bank balance requirement for the DTV visa application. Commenters provide advice on maintaining a higher account balance, recommendations for using Wise for currency transfer, and share insights on the fluctuating USD to THB exchange rates. There are mixed opinions on financial strategies, the necessity of adhering to the minimum bank balance, and some remarks on the behavior within expat communities when discussing financial matters.

Put double in. I doubt the USD will drop by that much.

Worst case scenario, use that money to buy a privilege entry visa or go for the LTR route.

Best of luck

Usd to THB 5 years ago traded 31.32. 6 months ago today traded at 32.36. Today it trades in at 32.41. Its all in your head.

This is for the commenters. I’m in hundreds of Facebook groups and the DTV and expat groups have the most rude, arrogant, out of touch and even elitist people in them. Here you are, a guest, talking to other guests like they are stupid and poor- like you’ve never had to balance a budget or have had any questions about the changing procedures or the complicated and often frustrating process of moving to a country that is not the one you were born in. You are not better than the people who have come after you or have less than you. These are your peers. Treat each other with grace or just leave them alone. I would not be at all surprised if attitudes like these are a factor in why it’s harder to move here now- this is not good guest behavior. If this is how you treat others like you, how are you treating the people that have opened their country to you?! (Rhetorical). Do better folks.

FunZebra4997 there are turds in the vast majority of any of these facebook groups. It doesn't matter what the subject . You just have to weed out the turds an block them. Those are the ones that ruin everything.

you’re right but most of the comments on most of these DTV/expat groups are like this. I don’t see it to this extent on any other group I’m in.

Anonymous participant 131 15-20% of the entire world population has a total net worth of $16,000 or more. This includes home equity, investments and savings- let alone untouched for months in one account. America is one of the richest countries in the world and only 30% of all Americans have $1,000 or more in savings. We’re talking about a very privileged few. Check yourself- most people don’t have this opportunity and many who do have to plan and save far in advance to achieve this. Being humble within your privilege costs nothing, neither does being respectful to others who haven’t had the opportunities you have had. People secure within themselves do not need to bully people with less than them.

So you have too little money in your bank account and are whining about it.

How do you plan to support your self while in Thailand?

Huh? What exactly is your question? Are you in the process of applying for the DTV Visa or do you have one already?

What is your actual question was what you have written isn't "marinating" into anything that makes any type of sense.

If you dont understand thats great not everyone is smart. But dont make some ignorant comment on here about not having a question, could have kept that to your self and said nothing on here at all. Absolutely no benifit in that.

your reply is equally as senseless as the original post. I have extensive knowledge about the DTV Visa process, requirements and guidelines, and would be glad to assist in answering the author's question, however what he has written doesn't actually present any type of question. It's rambling gibberish that's incomprehensible.

Just transfer more money to your account.🤷‍♂️ The 500k is the minimum requirement, that doesn’t mean you are not allowed to have more money in your account. The more you have, the better it looks for the Consulate because they want to see you have enough funds to support yourself. Keeping there exactly 500k can also be a reason for rejection, they are not stupid, they know exactly why you are keeping that money there

It’s not going to significantly impact the total amount after conversion. Are you really that short on funds that you can’t add a bit more?

Its not getting weaker its holding at 32 to 1 USD its constantly changing every day like usual. Between 32.20 to 32.80 this change isnt going to have a huge impact on the amount needed for DTV 16,000 USD is a safe bet to cover it if you are worried about the exchange rate changing every day

Wise isnt a bank account BTW

Anonymous participant i also want to add that the three months on the account varies between embassy. If you want you can travel to vietnam to Ha Noi apply there. Seems to be the seamless embassy they dont require 3 months on the account. Visa for vietnam is is about 40 USD i used an agent in vietnam got it back in 5 working days. The visa for vietnam is good for 90 days tourist visa and pretty simple

I recommend downloading app calles Agoda its a travel app for flights hotels and sim cards all in one place along with hotel - airport transfers

I looked at the Chicago consulate website and no mention of a seasoning. Just a recent bank account of US$16,000. I wonder if that means maybe just one month of seasoning?

Anonymous participant where will you be applying for the DTV visa?

In the USA 🇺🇸?

Or ???

What is your passport nation?

Those are important questions...

As the US Thai Embassy or Consulates now require US $17,000 bank account balance in a bank account in your name only.

they don’t require the 3 months /seasoned balance??

Anonymous participant so you plan for fluctuations and deposit an extra 10%. It's quite obvious. And you're wrong about the conversion. The USD is worth more now than it did in January and 500k baht would have been approximately 16k USD. Sometimes in February the daily rate was 16.2k So if you had less than that then you might not meet the application requirements.
