With the challenges at B of B I decided to open a new account elsewhere. As much as I support battling fraud I don’t believe the bank’s approach is of sound mind or ….. I walked into Krungthai with my lease, passport and tm. 30 minutes later I have a new bank card and an account. What was even nicer was when I transferred funds from wise they arrived in 10 seconds. The other bank was anywhere from a day to days. Nothing is perfect in life and I have to deal with the 50k per day maximum tranfer until this updates. The bank was at a loss for why B of B is operating this way. My account is still locked and once I get to the bank in a few weeks I will happily close this and never use them again.
UPDATE: Girlfriend went to the branch today, it was carnage as it was a branch specific notification she was number 75 in the queue and they were on number 20. At the same time i got through to the Bangkok bank call centre who gave me the direct line for the branch.
Upshot is they had 3 staff dealing with all of the enquiries. My girl was told that after the 30 days the account is closed no exceptions. When I get back I have to present bank book and I'd and they will return my funds and open a new account if I have a long term visa.
As I will have a non o I will go to another bank as I now have money sitting in no man's land for months
Good morning. I know the subject of Bangkok bank has been done to death but bear with me. I opened an account in January visa exempt using an agent. I use the account to transfer money to my girlfriend but it was mainly in preparation for my non o based on over 50. I am currently selling up in Australia and will get my non o here once I have a buyer for my house. Yesterday I got the dreaded 30 days to present at the branch notification. I won't be able to do this within the time but when I do I will have a non o stamp, Thai drivers licence etc.
My question is will they close the account after the 30 days with no contact? And if so can I retrieve the balance once I get to Thailand?
Or will the account simply be suspended pending my documents which it already is effectively as I can't move money in the app.
I have called the help desk but I imagine they are getting smashed due to the number of people who got the notification yesterday. So I hope someone has had experience of this previously. Thank you in advance.
Taxation of Tax Residents - look at the video 3:15.
Interesting 3 points made.
Some very good info in here I had not heard before. One thing that was new to me is banks report to revenue all accounts with over 2 million THB in or 400+ transactions a year.
Bottom line for DTV holders - unless you are remitting large amounts of money you earned in the same tax year you are tax resident then do not worry so much about tax.
EDIT: Around 30 mins they clear up ATM and CC use - yes it counts as remmitance
Hi everyone, we are about to buy a condo in Thailand! we are expats, we don’t live in Thailand so we would be coming on a tourist visa, we we’re wondering if we can open a Thai bank account? We would like to pay our foreign funds into this account instead of handing all this money to agent initially, we a bit scared of that, Question : is it possible to open a thai bank account while on a tourist visa ? Any help would be great thanks 🙏🌸
So I have spent 9 months a year on a retirement visa. Had to pay Bangkok Bank I think 7,000 baht for opening an account as an insurance policy was needed. I don’t like to use agents to do anything here so do it all with the help of my girl.
Last month sold my house in the uk so was think my house build will start soon so will bring a chunk of money over and if I go home will do business class or 1 st class Emirates.
So asked Bangkok bank how much I can pay on my debit card from my bank in one online transaction. I was astonished to hear them say 150,000 baht. I then asked could I upgrade my account to make ( as they called it a shopping amount) the limit higher. I told them in the UK there is only a limit of amount in the account.
Now today went into Kasikorn Bank. Took in my condo blue book and chanote and opened the same type of account but only 250 baht year fee as Bangkok is 300 baht and they had a shopping limit of 500,000 baht. So will be using them now. Also open 8.30 at my branch whereas Bangkok bank Soi Bukhoa opens at 10
Am. So when I go immigration I can get there early when I need letter for visa.
These figures are not the daily transactions to other people’s accounts it to but online things.
