It has been suggested I find a “shipping Broker” to have something sent from New Zealand. No idea what a “Shipping broker” is...

Not specifically a visa question, but kinda related. My Thai wife and I (on DTV) visa are coming back to Thailand in a couple of weeks after being away for 20 years. We have probably 8 suitcases (maybe 150kg) of stuff that we are bringing with us, as we are going to mainly base ourselves in Thailand, as I'm close to retirement. Do we need a form to avoid paying duty? Nothing valuable really, just clothes, personal effects, but it all adds up. Mainly her stuff really.

Anyone ever shipped a 20ft container on a retirement visa? And no I don't need stupid comments in the line of, leave all your stuff at home! If you don't know or you just want to be annoying don't comment!

Reason why I'm asking is according to the moving company only people on a 1 year work permit can ship containers free of duty

Can anyone provide advice on importing goods and personal effects with a DTV Visa?

What were you able to get duty exemptions on?

I'm seeking advice from anyone on a non-o retirement visa that has obtained a Used Household Goods Effects Duty Exemption.

What documentation was required and how long did it take to get approval? Can it be arranged online or only in person?

Thanks

Customs Duty - Does anyone know what personal possessions items (arrived by sea in container) duty is applicable to for someone who arrives from UK on a non-immigrant O visa with the intention of retiring? I thought I read somewhere that there is a very small list of items to which duty applies but customs seem to be charging duty on everything. Customs in Bangkok were provide my passport which shows the non-O stamp on it.

I am thinking of shipping a partial container of household goods etc from the US to Thailand.

I have two homes but moving to the Thai one permanently.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Good or bad. Please let me know.
