TLDR : Answer Summary
When importing goods and personal effects with a DTV Visa in Thailand, duty exemptions are generally not available. Duty exemptions are typically applicable only under strict conditions when holding a work permit. While there might be a possibility of getting lucky with low-value shipments, it is not a guaranteed rule. It's advisable to consult various expat groups for insights into the risks and potential costs involved.

You can't get duty exemptions on a DTV. Exemption is only in one very specific case with strict conditions when holding a work permit. You may get lucky on low value shipments but it's not a rule... Feel free to search other expats groups and see how risky and expensive it could be.

And again where does it say tourist visa πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚

and what tou show dosnt say tourist visa πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚

@Jeremy ****
no it doesn't, it lists the various visa options by category. The DTV is in its own category. It was defined as a Special Tourist Visa is the official announcement of its availability in the Royal Gazette where all government regulations are published
Jeremy *****
John Stannersagain no where on any thai gov site does it say this and shows it under non immigrant argue of youd like
John **********
@Jeremy ****
I'm not arguing. I'm stating a fact. Go and look at the announcement in the Royal Gazette for yourself if you don't believe me.
Jeremy *****
@John *********
why would I look at a newspaper when I literally show you above from the thai gov website πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
John **********
@Jeremy ****
maybe because it's not a newspaper, it's a record of all official government announcements. Nothing they announce becomes legal until it has first been published in the Royal Gazette
Jeremy *****
@John *********
again no thai government embassies or thai visa official website list it as any type of tourist visa

All yes all have it under non immigrant or by itself and NONE say special tourist visa period

You Can argue this FACT all you'd like but yet again no where other than the paper does it say this πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@Jeremy ****
The Royal Gazette is the ONLY official source, and the ONLY one that matters. It's immaterial what others list it as. There's a very good reason you can only stay a maximum of 360 days at a time with it (180+180 extension) then have to leave the country, you also aren't entitled to the benefits of a non-immigrant stamp such as 5 year driving licence etc.
Jeremy *****
That isn't true I just shipped my things here duty free πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Attached copy ofmy thai drivers license, copy of passport and rental agreement and tm30

No issues to be had . It is a long stay visa after all not sure where you got your information from πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Please say facts not what you hear or opinions πŸ™

@Jeremy ****
it’s a tourist visa

funny seeing how it is not under tourist visa on thai gov site πŸ˜‚

Yall wanna keep saying it's s tourist visa yet the fact that it is πŸ’― not under tourist visa on the official site seems to disagree with this statement πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

It's under non immigrant visa not tourist visa πŸ˜‰
John **********
@Jeremy ****
it is a "special tourist visa". It is not a non-immigrant visa and isn't shown as one anywhere I'm aware of
Jeremy *****
@John *********
see above picture direct from thai embassy site again show me where it says special tourists visa πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I think he just got lucky. Plenty of expats have been charged even for small shipment's.
Jeremy *****
How so I followed the rules shipped clothes and some of my collectables no issue πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@Jeremy ****
The value was low enough not to be taxed. Your DTV doesn’t grant you any duty exemption benefits, just like most visas, including non-immigrant visas. You can’t simply decide to bring a container or large boxes and expect to be tax-exempt. Feel free to check customs laws...
