Visa choice help -Retirement or ED Visa?

I return to Thailand in a couple of months and plan to enroll in language school, either Pattaya or Hua Hin.

I could go the ED Visa route, but not sure that is my best option.

I have a USA passport and I’m retired.

I only plan to stay in Thailand for 8 months on my next trip coming up, but when I return to the US it may be a year before returning to Thailand.

I’m not sure how to begin for the retirement visa choice.

I’ve had the Bangkok Bank account about a year, already moving money there.

Thanks for the suggestions on the best way for a visa.

I have a USA passport and got a 45-day visa exempt entry which expires Dec 17. I have my wife and 5 children here with me. We are going to pay the 1,900 baht fee to get the 30-day extension this week. I assume the 1,900 baht fee is per person - but it seems that I don't need to pay to extend my 5 children if children can't be fined for overstay, is that correct? We are going to fly to Laos for a border bounce in January, so I want to make sure there won't be any problems if they have overstayed.

Separately, I'm in Nimman area of Chiang Mai and I remember there being some advice about a particular immigration office in Chiang Mai that is not very busy. Any suggestions on which one to go to?

Hello everyone I got a few questions that I need answers too below

1) I will be traveling with a dog from Cyprus to Phuket the dog is originally from USA but also has a Eu pet passport. How hard will it be to bring him into Thailand

2) Me and my wife are vaccinated and my 4 year old is not. Will there be any quarantine that will have to do?

3) when we arrive we’re looking to live in Phuket for a little while and start a small business there ( Again we’re USA passport holders). What visa option is best?

Thank you all so much

Update for USA passport holders - I received a generic letter from the embassy, which I responded saying Thai immigration wants personalized letters - I haven't received an actual letter yet, but I received this e-mail from the embassy today: Thai Immigration requires foreign travelers to request an extension letter from their respective embassies. If you are unable to return to the U.S. and require a visa extension letter, please scan a copy of the biodata page of your passport and send to [acsbkk@state.gov](mailto:acsbkk@state.gov). Please ensure that your name, picture, and passport number are clearly readable. Due to the volume of requests please allow up to 72 hours for a copy of your extension letter. Every effort is being made to issue them as soon as possible.

I am a USA passport holder coming in January, I want to stay 90 days with a couple of side trips while I'm there out of the country. I have my return ticket (90 days). I see 2 VISA's offered at the consulate here, a 60 day single entry and a 90 day multiple entry, but the 90 day requires you have multiple entries showing on your tickets. What is the best VISA to get to begin my trip? One from the consulate here or just arrive and do trips out when needed? Thanks for any help here!

Hi All,

My wife and I are USA passport holders. We are aiming for Phuket first and then Chiang Mai later this year for a holiday/vacation on a visa waiver on arrival. We want to obtain a 1yr Multi-Entry Retirement visa (O-A) while in CM. Below is the list of things I think we need for both to get the same visa.

5,000THB for the visa

3x Application form

CM USA Consulate - Cert of income and Police Check cert.

Are there any charges for these from the Consulate?

3x Photos

Medical Cert from local Dr.

Can all of this be obtained in CM or is a trip to Bangkok or outside Thailand be necessary?

Anything I've missed?

TIA.
