TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, as an American traveling on a tourist visa for less than 30 days, you can leave Thailand to visit Vietnam and re-enter Thailand without needing to apply for another tourist visa. Upon your return, you will receive a new visa-exempt stamp for either 30 or 45 days, depending on current regulations. When exiting Thailand, your original visa becomes void, so there's no need for a re-entry permit. Just ensure you have a valid ticket leaving Thailand within the allowed period.
when I did mine the visa had the date of entry and like an extra week on the end of when I said I was exiting. So it was only for a specific period of time that I entered on the application
Many people confuse a visa exempt entry - where you arrive with no visa and get stamped in for 30 (currently 45 day until April 1st) with having an actual tourist visa (where you’d get stamped for 60 days).
There is literally no point in getting a re-entry permit on a visa exempt entry. You just leave and come back and get another.
Those with an actual tourist visa can get a re-entry permit at a cost of 1,000 baht. It will keep your existing “permitted to stay” date for when you enter again.
thank you. I was worried about not being able to get back in after I left. With round trip tickets out of BKK I didn’t want to do anything to lose it. Thanks again and happy holidays
No problem but you can return on visa exempt (no visa) dont need to apply again for a tourist visa, (with USA passport) you get 45 days. May be asked to show a ticket leaving within those 45. Once you leave Thailand, your original visa is history.
